I bought my first home in 1996 in Maplewood Minnesota.  I owned it for 18 months because I changed job.  I didn't use a realtor because we didn't want to pay the realtor commission to sell my house.  We didn't have any equity in it to hire a real estate agent.  It took it us awhile to sell our home.  We were young first time buyers and we fell in love with the house and didn't do our homework.  We ended up selling that house and moved to Burnsville, MN in 1998.  It took a lot of work on our part.  Looking back, I did wished we used a realtor to sell our house.  The realtor could have netted us the same amount money in the end.  There are so many things that can go wrong with the "process" of selling.  I did use a realtor to buy the new house in Burnsville, Minnesota.  She was great to work with.  Having that experience on both sides made me want to help others homeowners and first time buyers out there.  The lesson I learned was that by working with the right team of people, you can actually save time and money.  I got my real estate license in April of 2005, and have helped a lot of buyers and sellers.  I get excited to see my clients' dreams come true.
